Here is a photo of the latest progress and I have a concern about the top left hand corner of this quilt. I don't know whether to leave it as it is and rely on the quilting to break up the rather large expanse of charcoal or to insert thin lines of perhaps the dark blue from lower down in the quilt? Or should I just leave well alone? Comments, please!

Glenda - I think it's OK as it is particularly if you put some of the same dark colour down in the lower right hand corner where it is currently showing ?cream or ?wall
It's interesting seeing the progress of your quilt! At first glance, I would think that quilting might be all that is needed in the upper left area. It looks quite architectural to me... kind of like looking down a street... I think any blue added there would take away from the perspective that I see in the piece.
You might try printing a photo of the piece and playing with quilting lines, etc. or play with the photo in photoshop or other program to virtually try new ideas. That way you could see ahead of time what certain changes would do.
I am certainly no expert, but just a couple thoughts...
I see nothing wrong with it. Just make that upper corner block darker than the others by a shade or so. That will make the eye enter the piece at that spot.
I would insert thin lines in the large charcoal piece. IMHO it jars the eye - almost not busy enough
I would maybe "extend" the gold and dark blue/black vertical line from the bottom section into that dark area, and then accentuate it with the quilting. Trienie
I like the architectural flow and see my eye resting in the upper left corner before jumping back into action.
It seems to need to stay very dark, but perhaps just an additional thin strip or two of those same dark colors, in the same direction--nothing jumping up vertical!-- would pull it into the feeling of the rest of the piece. Anything much would disturb the balance and flow that is happening. Good idea, though, to print and play with a copy.
I think it's a great quilt,but I would like to see some of those very skinny lines there that you have elsewhere in the quilt. I would make them vertical.

I am seriously thinking of making up a couple of the suggestions and then auditioning them.
Whether I like it or not, I HAVE to finish this portion of the quilt as the bottom third sort of interlocks with the top two thirds and I cant move to that bit until this bit is finished. WOW, that sounds as clear as mud!
My eye travels from lower left, to the right and up the well-lit building (I always interpret abstract-ish images as *some*thing). Then nothing to bring the eye back down and a round.
What about an arc? like the outline of a moon in the upper left...nothing too glaring, just a whisper of light to curve the eye back around?
And fill in the lower right or make a somewhat matching notch on the lower left....

There is still quite a bit that has to go onto the bottom of this quilt.
I just need to resolve that top left hand corner- when I get a minute. Right now earning the daily crust has the upper hand!
