Arctic Circle Photos

I was looking through my Arctic Circle photos this morning and came across this photo of husky pups at a settlement in Greenland. They are seriously cute at this age and run free until they are about  9 months old - at which point they are chained up along with the older dogs and they begin their training as sledding dogs.

The second photo shows an adult husky with his owner.
This dog is, in fact, the pack leader. He stands just
under a meter at the shoulder and when he is fully fit,
probably weighs around 50 -60 kg.This particular owner  has 16 dogs for his sled and says that he gets through around 3 tons of kibble  + a number of
walrus and seals a year to keep his dogs fit.

These are the sleds that the huskies pull. When fully laden, they need 16 dogs to pull them.
The husky owner in the previous photo is a trapper- from the East End of London nogal- and when he goes out trapping in winter, he is out on the ice with only his dogs for company for 6 weeks at a time.
